Those campsites that have reopened after lockdown are reporting full bookings as holiday makers turn to camping as a safe option for getting away from it all. And The Guardian reports that new campsites are popping up as farmers looking for an additional revenue stream after the removal of EU subsidies, are taking advantage of supply not matching demand for pitches.

While campsites are welcoming back guests for this summer, there are also reports of a hike in advance bookings for next July and August, with holidaymakers choosing a staycation over a holiday abroad next year while the Covid-19 pandemic continues to pose a risk.

If you’re still looking to get away this summer, think beyond the holiday hotspots and choose somewhere where it is possible to socially distance. The Camping and Caravanning Club still has availability in some beautiful spots: Bala in Wales, Sandringham in Norfolk, Tarland by Deeside in Aberdeenshire and Salisbury in Wiltshire. Visit www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/lateavailability for more late availability pitches.
