Elddis caravans are going to continue – but will be produced in Germany, and only from next year onwards.
There has been much speculation about the future of Elddis caravans because when owner Erwin Hymer UK announced back in March that, as part of its Elddis Unlimited strategy, motorhome and campervan production would be moving respectively to Germany and Poland, it said the future of caravan production was still undecided.
Now the company says that from next year it plans to start producing Elddis caravans at the EHG plant at Isny-in Allgäu in southern Germany, where fellow EHG brand Dethleffs currently produces its motorhomes, campervans and caravans.
Both the Xplore and Buccaneer caravan brands are, however, being discontinued.
The brand’s 2026 line-up included models such as the Whirlwind 554 and the Avante Apex 550, but the new Elddis caravans, which will still be specified in the UK, will have their initial prototype preview at a private dealer event in spring next year. No new caravans will be produced between now and then.
A public launch is planned for the NEC show in October next year, on a dedicated Elddis stand and in partnership with dealers.
The company adds that the new caravans “will be built using the same precision engineering and time-served, exacting craftsmanship that has positioned EHG Plant Isny as a leading force in leisure vehicle manufacture”.
The company’s UK site at Consett in County Durham will continue to operate, but only as a centre for customer service, finance, IT, design, product management, marketing, sales, and technical and after-sales support for customers and dealers.
EHG UK says more details will follow in due course.
In other recent news, North Yorkshire Police has issued an appeal after thieves attempted to steal four caravans in one go. The incident, which happened near Selby on 27th May, saw an unknown number of thieves attempt to make off with the tourers before making off in an unknown vehicle.
