Thames Valley Police are calling for witnesses and footage after a Sprite Major 4SB caravan was stolen from a field near Cropredy during this month’s Fairport Cropredy Festival.
Local news reports claim that the tourer was stolen around midnight on 15 August, the final night of the festival, in an incident which highlights the importance of good caravan security. Potential deterants caravanners could look to use include the best caravan wheel clamp, a hitch lock and a caravan tracker.
The Sprite belonged to a couple who had stayed on at the festival on the last day to see the final act. They were returning to the caravan field afterwards when they saw their caravan being towed away at speed by either a black Range Rover or silver Mercedes, along the road towards Great Bourton which leads on towards Banbury.
They had to take a taxi all the way back to their home in Suffolk because they had left the car keys in the caravan and so were stranded.
The caravan contained all their personal belongings as well as important medication the couple’s daughter is now trying to replace.
No arrests have yet been made concerning the theft, and although it is possible the theft may have been caught on CCTV, police are still urging anyone who recognises the caravan, or who has been offered it for sale, to get in touch, quoting reference number 43260422957.
