Verdict
This caravan is a great effort from Bailey, the roomy Cordoba having a very good spec for a super-competitive price.
Pros
Ideal for seasonal pitches
Spacious lounge and midships area
Unicorn II pushes all the comfort buttons
Competitive price
Cons
The circular shower is small and an inefficient use of space
This is the second new Unicorn in the 2014 range and Bailey has taken the opposite approach to that in its Vigo model. This twin-axle Cordoba is a stretched version (0.55m longer) of the popular Unicorn II Cadiz, which carries the in-vogue, fixed-twin-bed layout, plus it comes with a strong spec. As you’d expect from Bailey, the Cordoba has an Alu-Tech bodyshell and comes with a six-year transferable body shell integrity guarantee and a three-year transferable manufacturers’ components warranty.
The walk-through bedroom with fixed twin beds is the unique selling point of this layout
Pitching & Setting-up
Bailey’s Unicorn II Cordoba runs on a twin-axle Al-Ko galvanised steel chassis, with a button-operated handbrake. The front corner steadies are easily accessed from the side of the caravan; those at the back are under the rear skirt, so you may have to bend a touch in order to reach them.
The caravan’s battery box as well as the electric hook-up connection are on the nearside, just behind the axle, while the water connections are made to the offside. The control panel and touch-screen controller for the Alde wet central heating are on the left-hand side as you enter through the two-piece caravan door.
Living
The extra length in this twin-axle Cordoba has been put to good use inside, enabling a comfortable and practical lounge area with added bonus of having twin fixed beds that you can leave made up.
The lounge, pictured with the standard Mozart fabric scheme, benefits from long seat benches. These stretch to 1.72m (nearside) and 1.85m (offside), making them suitable as single beds for children and some adults.
For dining, there’s a light-weight free-standing table with dedicated storage, while for coffee time the recessed three-drawer front chest has a handy slide-out occasional table.
Kitchen
A 190-litre fridge/freezer with electronic ignition, placed next to the midships dresser will be a bonus for any caravanners considering the Bailey Unicorn II Cordoba for a seasonal pitch. There’s also a neat, circular sink, while the smart, light-coloured worktops help give this area its own, distinct feel. There’s a good amount of worktop space, too.
For actual cooking there’s a new Thetford Caprice combined oven, grill and dual-fuel hob (an electric hotplate and three gas rings) with electronic ignition and flame failure device. At eye-level there’s also a stainless steel 800 watt microwave oven. Finally, if you fancy cooking al-fresco, there’s an exterior gas BBQ point.
Washroom
The washroom of this Cordoba uses the same layout as the Cadiz on which it is based, with an offside wardrobe and a nearside shower flanking the cassette toilet and handbasin with mixer tap.
The offside wardrobe pushes the toilet into the middle of the washroom. The cassette is accessed from the van’s rear wall.
The Alde heated towel rail is a luxurious touch, but we feel a square shower cubicle would have been more space-efficient than the circular one here.
Beds
The walk-through bedroom with fixed twin beds is the unique selling point of this layout and a very compelling one, as both occupants can access the washroom without disturbing each other. These twin fixed beds measure a respectable 1.9m x 0.66m (nearside) and 1.88m x 0.66m (offside) and, usefully, can be left made up during the day.
The beds have comfortable mattresses, another plus point. The front double bed measures 2.06m x 1.62m.
Storage
Storage in Bailey’s Unicorn II Cordoba is pretty generous. In addition to the space in both bed boxes, there’s room under the front seats and the nearside fridge/freezer has freed up space under the split-level kitchen worktop. Bailey has chosen a ‘walnut’ finish for all the furniture.
