Swift’s Conqueror range, wedged between Challenger and Elegance in terms of price, last made an appearance in 2023, and we thought that was it. But then the range reappeared this year, with three models with a conventional width, and four as 8ft-wide Conqueror Grande models, and with a number of new features.

We headed to Code 11 Caravans and Motorhomes in Wakefield in West Yorkshire (who have been selling used caravans for 16 years, but only became a new Swift dealer last year) to take a look at the Swift Conqueror 580, a model that was highly commended at the Practical Caravan Awards 2026 in our best 4 berth caravan category.

This transverse island bed with end-washroom model is also available as a Conqueror Grande, but by going for a conventional width you get a caravan that is 61kg lighter and £2050 cheaper. Does it make sense to opt for this island bed caravan?

Pitch and set-up

The 580 is a single axle and 7.63m-long, but you still get ATC and an AKS3004 stabiliser, so towing it should be relatively easy (especially with a conventional width).

There’s an external cold water shower point, but because this is a single axle you don’t get the onboard 40-litre water tank that graces twin-axle caravans from the Conqueror line-up.

The lounge in the Swift Conqueror 580

A comfortable lounge will always be an important factor when you’re choosing a caravan. We found the parallel settees in the front lounge comfy and thought they could easily seat four. However, if the large kitchen extension is brought into play then four might be a bit of a squeeze.

The table, which lives in a dedicated storage compartment to the right of the door, can also easily take four places.

The 580's lounge
There are comfortable parallel settees in the lounge, while light can stream in thanks to a superb new sunroof

These new Conquerors come with an entirely new sunroof that certainly lets in light, but also includes LEDs for better night lighting and two speakers connected to the DAB radio hidden in one of the overhead lockers.

Sockets for the TV are to the right of the door, above the table storage. You get USB and USB-C sockets in the nearside front corner, and a USB socket in the spotlights.

Kitchen in the Swift Conqueror 580

There’s a fair amount of workspace in the side kitchen without having to use the large extension. There are two sockets at the back of this area, as well as two cubbyholes that would be handy for spices and the like when you’re packing your caravan.

The Conqueror’s kitchen includes a large worktop extension, while a 133-litre slimline fridge can be found opposite

The dual-fuel four-burner hob comes with an extractor fan, and there’s a separate oven and grill underneath. A microwave sits next to the overhead locker and there’s a slimline fridge opposite.

Washroom in the Swift Conqueror 580

When stepping into the end washroom you realise just how much of modern caravan manufacturing is modular – we noticed that the built-in washbasin, concertina shower doors and rack for shampoos in the shower itself, complete with a pattern underneath that doubles up as a hook for flannels, are similar to that seen in the Swift Trekker motorhome.

Either way, this is a good-sized space and all of the fixtures and fittings look smart. Unlike the cubicle there, the cubicle here is large, too.

Beds in the Swift Conqueror 580

The downside of going for a conventional- width van over an 8ft-wide tourer comes in the rear bedroom. The rear bed is large and comfy, but when you pull it out fully there’s barely room for anyone to squeeze by to reach the washroom.

On the plus side, fixed beds in the Conqueror range now come with plenty of headroom for sitting up and cushioned headboards up to the overhead lockers. You no longer have to put up with resting your head on a bare wall if you want to sit up.

You can make up a second double in the front lounge by just pulling out the slats – as the base cushions are pretty much flat, you probably don’t need to turn them over.

The parallel settees can be turned into a good-sized double bed by using pull-out slats and the sofa cushions

The settees, meanwhile, only really work as single beds for very small children.

Storage in the Swift Conqueror 580

The rear bed, when lifted, stays up on its own, giving you access to a huge area that is also externally accessible – handy when you’re loading a caravan.

At the back you also get two overhead lockers, drawers in the bedside tables, and wardrobes that curve slightly inwards toward the bed to give more hanging space without making the area feel too cramped.

Up front up above you get two large overhead lockers and two corner lockers with unusually large drawers.

In the kitchen, baskets slide out from the peninsula to provide generous dry food storage. There are also three drawers in the base unit (the top one of which is mostly a cutlery drawer), a reasonable locker under the oven, a drawer above and below the fridge, and the overhead locker.

Washroom storage includes a cupboard under the built-in basin, and a double cupboard over the loo with some open shelving next to the big mirror.

Alternative to consider

Take a look at the tourer we named the pick of the four berths at the Practical Caravan Awards 2026, the Bailey Phoenix Black 640. Standout features include a cleverly designed washroom door and new velour window panels, which we think make it an even more appealing tourer.

Or, alternatively, you could look at the Coachman VIP 565, a tourer which has fixed single beds and a more open living space, as well as a spacious end washroom.
