Bailey’s Unicorn Deluxe isn’t really a new range, but an upgrade of an already popular line-up with some welcome new features, perhaps the most notable of which is a useful portable SONOS speaker.

Bailey possibly felt that this was necessary with the Unicorns because they are a conventional, 7’5” width – at this price point, many of its competitors offer a little more space due to being 8ft-wide caravans.

So is the upgrade enough? I decided to find out by taking a look inside the fixed-single-beds, end-washroom Bailey Unicorn Deluxe Cadiz at Campbells Caravans, in Lancashire.

Pitch and set-up

The Unicorn range has always immediately impressed with its appearance and what you get on the outside of the tourer.

That includes ATC and a caravan stabiliser, as well as an exterior BBQ point, an awning light and an offside services light, and two external-access lockers on the nearside (although not on the offside). That huge central front window continues to draw the eye, while the elegant new ‘Deluxe’ lettering is set off by the equally elegant chrome grab handles.

Lounge in the Bailey Unicorn Deluxe Cadiz

The central window allows light to flood the lounge, aided by big side windows, two Hekis and a large window in the kitchen.

My test model came with the optional Jasmine upholstery that features Aquaclean fabric. Blossom is standard, or you could go for the optional Mulberry. I particularly like the leaf pattern on the lace curtains and the scatter cushions.

The lounge area

The shelf that comes out of the central chest reaches almost halfway across the lounge, so you may not need the foldaway table. If you do, it is stored – a little inconveniently – under the offside bed at the back. But it easily accommodates the four people you could seat in this lounge, something that could be a requirement if you’re looking for the best 4 berth caravan.

There is a wireless charging point on the narrow sill, and the usual USBs in the two spotlights under the lockers. Otherwise for night-time lighting, there is ambient light, and two LEDS in the window housing. The portable SONOS speaker, with built-in Alexa voice control, is a nice touch.

The TV sockets and bracket are above a cupboard to the right of the door.

Kitchen in the Bailey Unicorn Deluxe Cadiz

The main update here is the new Baystone off-white laminate finish, also on the hob cover. This offers a modern look, as does the swan-neck tap with detachable hose.

I did think the extension isn’t flush with the worktop, but there are two mains sockets nearby. There is a 137-litre Thetford caravan fridge opposite, and a flatbed microwave above.

Washroom in the Bailey Unicorn Deluxe Cadiz

A large, beautifully finished shower cubicle takes up the nearside of the end washroom. It has a handy shelf, and the riser’s leaf pattern panel echoes the curtains.

The washroom

The toilet is on the offside, away from any awning, which will come in useful when it needs emptying – take a look at our guide to how to empty a caravan toilet if you need guidance on this. It is in front of a huge hanging wardrobe. You also get a well-lit mirror behind the large handbasin.

Beds in the Bailey Unicorn Deluxe Cadiz

The single beds are not the longest I have seen, or the widest. But they are unusually high, at 66cm from the floor to the top of the mattress. Each has a plush headboard, a spotlight with built-in USB and a shelf.

The rear single beds
Rear single beds have plush headboard, spotlight with built-in USB, and a shelf

The base cushions in the lounge are so flat (but still comfortable), you don’t really need to turn them over to make the beds. The double you make from pulling out the slats isn’t very wide, at 1.23m – I think the settees would work better as single beds.

Storage in the Bailey Unicorn Deluxe Cadiz

Along with external access, there is an access flap for the area under the nearside settee in the lounge by the door. You have to navigate past some cabling to reach it, but the area is clear, has a waterproof floor, and can also be accessed by lifting the slats.

The offside underseat area is mostly taken up with the Alde heater, but Bailey has helpfully included an internal access flap to reach the clear zone within. Other than that, there are two large overhead lockers here, two corner lockers and space in the cupboard to the right of the door.

There’s masses of space under both rear beds, and on the nearside, it is externally accessible – useful when you’re loading a caravan. From inside, you have to remove the mattresses (and the table on the offside) to raise the slats for access. But there are two overhead lockers above each bed.

In the kitchen, there are two very large drawers under the sink. The pan lockers are a bit shallow at the front, but they go back a long way. There’s a pull-out rack by the oven, while the two overhead lockers are a good size.

As well as the wardrobe, the washroom has a double cupboard behind the mirror and two cupboards under the basin.

Alternatives to consider

The 8ft-wide Coachman Acadia 675 Xtra has a comfortable and airy lounge, as well as a spacious interior design. Alternatively, how about the Knaus Azur 460 EU – it has a high-quality build, an impressive washroom and plenty of storage options.
