The 8ft-wide revolution got underway some years ago now, with Elddis finding a ready market for wider tourers.
Soon other manufacturers joined in, and 8ft-wide caravans rapidly became successful. In 2018, Swift, with its already popular Sprite range, decided it was time to launch the new 8ft-wide Sprite Super.
The line-up comprised two models, both twin-axle caravans. The Quattro FB was a fixed side bed six-berth, while the DB, also a six-berth, had fixed bunk beds. Both had a large wrap-around central seating arrangement and a huge front lounge fitted with parallel seating.
Storage in these caravan layouts was particularly good, with both models offering two capacious wardrobes and lots of lockers.

These tourers quickly proved a hit with family buyers, who clearly found that the Quattros had all the essentials needed for comfortable touring.
Spacious and well-planned, they were also ideal for use on seasonal caravan pitches. Pricing was competitive, too, at just over £21,000 for either model.
Model history of the Sprite Super Quattro
The Diamond pack was always an option for the Quattros, adding valuable extras for not much extra cash, so virtually all of these tourers came with this pack added.
They all boasted Swift’s Command panel, DAB radio, a microwave, a fridge, an oven and a three-burner gas hob.
The Truma blown-air heating kept the Quattro warm on cool evenings, while deep overhead lockers offered lots of storage, which makes kitting out a caravan that bit simpler.

By the end of 2022, the ‘Super’ badge was replaced by ‘Grande’. The DB remains popular, with its fixed bunks and rear washroom. The wrap-around central dinette also offers children their own space, which can be a very useful feature in these types of caravans.
With only two models in the line-up, choices are limited, but the layouts have some scope.
The kitchen offers lots of worktop, always important for preparing family meals.

The extra width also gives you a bit more living space and essential storage options. Something I will highlight is that while an AKS hitch stabiliser came fitted as standard, caravan ATC was an optional extra, so it’s worth checking to see if it comes with it.
So do pre-owned Quattros make bargain buys? I’d say they are well worth a look!
What to look out for in a Sprite Super Quattro DB 2019
There are numerous checks you should always carry out when buying a used caravan.

Things to particularly look out for in this tourer include:
- Repairs to GRP side panels
- Significant fading in front gas locker/panel
- Functioning door lock (barrel has been known to drop out)
- Signs of damage or grazing on alloys for all four caravan tyres
- Sagging or stained upholstery
- Functioning push-button lock on wardrobes
Price checker
The 2019 Quattros are holding their prices well – I found one at £19,995. At £18,995, the model reviewed here seemed to be the lowest price. You could get a good deal on a private sale, at about £17,495, but you might have to search hard.
For the other model in the range, you can expect to pay:
- Quattro FB – £18,995-£19,995
Alternatives to consider
A similar layout to the DB can be found in the 2017 Elddis Avanté 866, another twin-axle.
The Avanté also offers great spec and a 2017 model would be a few quid cheaper – look at paying £17,595 or so. But if you are shopping for a luxury six-berth and weight isn’t going to be an issue, you might also consider the 2017 Buccaneer Galera, priced at around the £22,000 mark. Generous spec and Alde heating make the Buccaneer a real luxury buy.
My verdict on the 2019 Sprite Super Quattro DB
I like the Quattro, and on the whole, this example had been well looked after, although it had clearly seen good usage, possibly on a seasonal pitch.
The kitchen looked good, and the seating in the lounge was a bit worn, but still comfortable.
I did notice one broken wardrobe lock, a problem that’s quite common in these 2019 models. But taken overall, the Sprite is a big family tourer offering big value for money.
