Looking at used Swift caravans for sale? Then how about a Conqueror?

It remains one of the top-selling ranges in the UK, consistently delivering for Swift Group a large slice of the luxury market sector.

It evolved from the twin-axle Challenger brand launched for the 1985 season. In 1990, Swift Group added a new range of twin-axle tourers to top its portfolio.

This new model was the Conqueror, with four layouts in its line-up and an impressive specification. Add to that a new, aerodynamic design and up-to-the-minute interiors, and the Conqueror soon became a best-seller in its class and the first choice for many caravanners wanting to tour all year round.

For 2008, the Swift Conqueror received distinctive silver sides and a new rear panel that were carried over for the 2009 season. LED lighting was introduced, soft furnishings were upgraded and twin-axle models got Alde wet central heating, while the single-axle models were warmed with Truma blown-air heating.

However, one surprising omission for an upmarket model was that the Al-Ko ATC trailer control system was not fitted as standard.

Five layouts were available, carried on from the 2008 model year, with the single-axle 530 one of the most popular in the range thanks to its superb end washroom, single dinette that converts into bunks and comfy lounge that makes up into a double bed.

Model history

The 530 was launched for 2008 and brought the Conqueror into single-axle territory, making it accessible to more buyers.

It had a super washroom and a good-sized nearside kitchen, and by 2009 boasted a water tank, a CD/radio with iPod/MP3 connectivity, LED lighting and five mains sockets.

The large lounge, which comes with a central chest of drawers, offers ample space for relaxation and makes up into a good-sized double bed.

The handy side dinette in this used Swift Conqueror 530 converts into twin bunks, making this layout ideal for those who want to take the grandchildren on tour occasionally.

Good build quality and kit levels on these Swift caravans make the 530 a sound pre-owned buy today.

Buyer’s checklist

  • Does the LED power light for the TV still work?
  • Is the caravan’s fridge working properly?
  • Check the middle front window for signs of rubbing

What to pay?

Swift Conqueror 530 prices start from £8995 – around £2k less than the cheapest 480s, thanks to their desirability. We found 530s for up to £11,995, so this featured example looks well priced.

The twin-axle 645 sits at the top of the pile, with the best nudging £14,000.

Alternatives

  • A 2007 Bessacarr Cameo 525 will provide the same layout but with more spec and luxury. It’s hefty, but a great buy at £8500.
  • Or how about a 2009 Fleetwood Heritage 530-3. This is an end-washroom four-berth with Alde heating. Prices start from £8995.

Verdict

The well-equipped Swift Conqueror range offers good value for money on the used market.

The build quality is high, so very little goes wrong and the caravans look good, too, with their silver sidewalls and classy profile.

The range offers several good layouts including the 480, a cracking end-washroom two-berth.

These seven-year-old Conquerors make excellent buys, if you’re looking at used caravans for sale.
