The latest addition to the King Charles III England Coast Path has opened in Northumberland, adding 38 miles to the route.

The newest stretch of the national trail extends between Bamburgh and the Scottish border, and is the last addition to the Northumberland stretch of the route. It also completes a 245-mile continuous path that extends from Bridlington in the East Riding of Yorkshire to the Scottish border, the longest stretch that is currently open to the public.

Northumberland’s coast is well known for its picturesque beaches (see: the best seaside caravan parks if you’re looking for a coastal getaway), as well as providing geological diversity and inter-tidal mudflats.

Now, with the latest addition to the King Charles III England Coast Path, caravanners who have chosen one of the best caravan parks in the region to stay at and are planning to visit the trail can explore Budle Bay, Holy Island and Berwick-upon-Tweed, before reaching England’s northernmost town, Marshall Meadows.

It has connected with the open trail at Bamburgh that already existed, and has seen improved signage and access added, helping everyone to soak up the nature and heritage of the area.

When the King Charles III England Coast Path is completed, it will cover 2,700 miles, and is set to be fully walkable by the end of 2024.

Councillor Jeff Watson, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Tourism at Northumberland County Council, said: “This path is a great news for residents who walk our superb coastline and will also open up opportunities for new visitors who want to explore the wonderful assets we have in our county.”

“Tourism is key to Northumberland’s economy and this stunning route should bring in additional visitors all year round who want to experience everything we have to offer.”
