After 40 years, Coachman has garnered a reputation for producing practical, gimmick-free touring caravans.

The Lusso range caters to fans of luxury caravans. It was designed in response to both Coachman owners wanting more, and ranges such as the Buccaneer models and Swift’s Elegance range.

The line-up – which came loaded with kit and a high-end interior – was launched a few years ago, and the idea took off. In 2026 a fourth model was introduced, at February’s Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show.

The Lusso IV is the first in the range to offer a washroom in the middle, while it retains the L-shaped lounge in the front all the others have, and the transverse island bed at the rear that all bar the Lusso III include. So a big tourer with a price to match – is this new island bed caravan another hit?

Pitch and set-up

The Lusso IV has real kerb appeal, with its quality-build exterior. It’s on an Al-Ko chassis with the ATC trailer stability system included, and comes with smart alloy wheels.

Coachman is now the only UK maker using aluminium for an exterior finish. The grey walls looks good and the bold graphics add further appeal, with the Lusso name in gold placed centrally on the side. A large front sunroof adds to the smart look.

E&P’s caravan self-levelling system is fitted as standard. There are twin front-opening, easy-access gas lockers, while a gas BBQ point and exterior mains socket are also part of the spec. Coachman fits a Teleco TV aerial which is fully adjustable, as well as a 120W solar panel. The one-piece door includes a window and a high-security locking system.

Lounge in the Coachman Lusso IV

L-shaped lounges were a must-have feature in many tourers 20 years ago. Some caravanners don’t like them now, but Coachman Lusso customers appear to be in favour, and they seem to work well in an 8ft-wide model such as this.

There is a large foot stool finished in the same grey as the seating cushions, which offer great comfort. The freestanding table comfortably seats four around it.

Excellent LED night lighting is the norm here, and there are several mains sockets.

A large cabinet on the nearside is a place for the best caravan TV to go. We’re glad Coachman still fits a window here, adding natural light and a view when the TV is away. A DAB radio is fitted in the lounge, with handy speakers.

You will be warm in here, and have plenty of hot water thanks to the latest Alde continuous flow system. Unusually, a Truma compact air-conditioning unit is also included as standard, for when the thermometer goes the other way.

Kitchen in the Coachman Lusso IV

The L-shaped kitchen offers excellent work space. The Thetford oven has a separate grill and a dual-fuel hob with an extractor fan above it. A microwave is placed in one of the overhead lockers.

In the kitchen there’s ample storage plus some useful and well-lit workspace (left); Opposite the kitchen is a tall cupboard that’s perfect for larder items and drinks (right)

On the opposite side there is a Dometic fridge with a separate freezer, as well as a plush drinks cabinet next to the control panel. Night-time lighting is up to the usual excellent Coachman standards.

Beds in the Coachman Lusso IV

L-shaped lounges are not usually large enough to allow two adults to sleep separately using the settees as single beds. The lounge here, however, is big enough. Otherwise you can slide out the seat bases to make up a huge double bed.

In the rear the ample island bed can be pushed back to allow for more space around the foot of it – and provide you with somewhere else to relax.

In the middle of the two nearside wardrobes at the foot of this bed is a wall-mounted TV included as standard.

Washroom in the Coachman Lusso IV

As you walk through from the lounge and the kitchen, the toilet in the washroom is on the left. There is a good-size handbasin and a matt-finished radiator.

The shower cubicle on the opposite side is a fully moulded unit; it has moulded shelving for soap and more, while the showerhead and fittings are also matt black.

Storage in the Coachman Lusso IV

The Lusso IV will probably be used mostly as a couple’s van, but even if there are four of you there are plenty of storage options.

The front lounge has deep overhead lockers, with plenty of space under the seats and in the foot stool, not forgetting the side cabinet. The island bed in the rear bedroom lifts up to provide good space for large items to be stowed.

The two large wardrobes and the TV on the nearside all have storage cupboards underneath them, while there is also a shelf above the TV. In the washroom you will find a cupboard under the basin and also above the mirror and window.

Alternatives to consider

You could take a look at another tourer from Coachman, the Laser 845 Xtra – it’s a caravan that combines practicality with style.

Or you could see what the Swift Elegance Grande 845 comes with, a classy eight-footer, which is a well-planned and spacious caravan.
