Coachman is a sought-after brand. From the Acadia to the Lusso, these vans are popular among caravanners seeking solid build and great design.
The company’s philosophy has always been to produce luxury caravans at the right price, as well as building mainly to order for dealers.
The Pastiche became a firm favourite when it first appeared, and remained so until it was superseded by the Acadia – take a look at our review of the Acadia 675 Xtra for an idea of what these tourers are like.
It was soon a best-seller, and came with an excellent spec right from the start, providing a full oven and exterior mains sockets among many other tempting plus points.
In production until 2019, Pastiche tourers can still be found in substantial numbers on the used forecourts.
The 2018 model viewed here would have been among the last to be built, but the van’s continued popularity means most forecourts are likely to feature a Pastiche.
I took a look at the 460/2, an end-washroom caravan for couples, to see how the range is faring these days.
Model history
So does the 2018 Coachman Pastiche 460/2 stand the test of time and should you be considering it if you’re on the hunt for the best used caravan?
From the very first day that they appeared on dealership forecourts, the Pastiche sold well, with an excellent choice of layouts available.
The 460/2, which was added for the 2000 model year, was designed to provide a little extra length over the 420 that it replaced, giving the interior more space and storage.
Over the years, Coachman upgraded the range, as well as changing the profile.
Another important point to bear in mind about the Pastiche is that Coachman also used it as the basis for several dealer specials, adding extra kit that made them even better value. So if you come across one of these while you shop around, it’s well worth taking a look.
Alde heating was part of the superb spec, as well as items such as an external BBQ point, an alarm and a stereo system.
The 460’s end washroom was a major selling point, offering top-quality facilities and a very spacious shower cubicle.
Price checker
Shopping around, I found prices ranging from £15,750 to £16,195 for the Pastiche 460/2. This example falls neatly between the two, at £15,995. For the rest of the range, you can expect to pay:
- 520/3: £16,995-£17,995
- 545/4: £17,695-£17,995
- 565/4: £16,995-£18,195
- 575/4: £18,495-£18,995
What to check for
- Lens fade in rear road lights
- Dents in side panels
- Water ingress around rear awning rail
- Loss of support in mattress on permanent beds
- Discoloured sealant
- Evidence of water ingress underneath shower tray
- Damage to shower door
- Badly scratched enamel on kitchen sink
Verdict
The light wood finish makes this a bright and airy interior. Add to that a well-equipped kitchen and a large washroom, plus lots of storage, and you can see why this is such a popular used buy for couples.
Although the standard 2018 Pastiche has much to commend it, keep an eye out for those dealer specials, too.
